Joshua David was born in the Pacific Northwest and raised on a remote apple orchard at the edge of Devil’s Backbone in Washington State. The countryside and surrounding wilderness would have heavy influence on him and serve as the roots of both his music and writing. He holds a BSc in Primate Behavior and Ecology and a Master of Science in Primate Conservation, and has studied primates from the Yellow Mountains of China to the savanna woodlands of West Africa. He also served as a docent at the Chimpanzee and Human Communication Institute with the first chimpanzees to speak American Sign Language.
Joshua conceived of the concept for the antlered ape story while writing/recording what would become The Antlered Ape – A Guitar and Piano Demo in 2015. The more fleshed out Part II, The Antlered Ape EP, was recorded circa 2019. Folks seemed to like the concept story that was intended to accompany the instrumental music as much as the music itself. And so, between October of 2023 and April of 2024, he fleshed that part out too, writing the first draft of a novel. It’s since been revised and revised again. It’s a long process.
The music and the story go hand in hand, each influencing the other. Joshua is currently seeking representation for THE ANTLERED APE novel, and in time, you will have THE ANTLERED APE book to hold in your hands and feast your hungry eyes upon.
